Japan is very unfortunate since they are in the middle of 4 different plate boundaries. They are surrounded by the Phillipine Plate, Eurasion Plate, North American Plate, and the Pacific Plate. Japan is also unfortunate because they are near a convergent boundary. The reason why I say Japan is unfortunate due to all of this because they are located in a spot where there lots of volcanoes located and where many strong earthquakes happen.Japan get very strong earthquakes (compared to what we are used to) because they are near a convergent boundary which are plates that move toward one another. This played a key factor on why Japan was hit by an earthquake of a magnitude of 9 and a tsunami in 2011.

  1. Great Diagrams Manuel! It is really cool how similar Japan and China are with all of the disasters they have, it's probably because they lie on the same plate boundary.

  2. Great research and images...very telling.. Little typo on the title [please edit when you can..]. It seems Japan will be VERY prone to quakes...I'll be looking forward to what you find out next week...

  3. Hi Manuel,

I found your blog very interesting to read. Japan is surprisingly quite similar to Jamaica (my country) considering they are both surrounded by multiple plate boundaries. It seems like you will have your hands full in week 3 for earthquakes!

    Great post!

  4. Hi Manuel,

The Eurasian Plate was also near my country along with the Philippine Plate. I found your blog interesting because I focused more on the Philippine plate. Great job explaining the Eurasian plate!
